God Consciousness: A Way to Inner Peace
Day by day, we need to keep our hearts and minds fixed steadfastly on the shining light within us; the light which is ‘the life of all men, which the darkness has not mastered.’ John Ch. 1.
By means such as prayer, praise and meditation, we allow our level of consciousness to be raised above material concerns and, in faith, look to the Supreme Being, the Divine reality who sustains all things. Love him as he loves us, and we shall be led to the kingdom of heaven within; to ‘the peace that passeth all understanding. ’St. Paul in his letter to the Philippians Ch.4
To be free from our sorrows and heartaches, we need to learn to release them. That means to take the focus off thoughts which are causing our unhappiness, and meditate on the truth of God being within us. ‘You will have trouble in this world, but courage, I have conquered the world’ says Jesus Christ in St. John’s Gospel.
To believe this and reach the inner awareness of the living Christ within, leads to the acceptance of God’s way of healing. Gradually we begin to understand, through practice and God’s grace, how to stay in this revelation. As we do, its truth brings peace in the very midst of life’s hurts, pains and disappointments.
Our problems may still be there but they no longer produce fear and anxiety. Our feelings are changed to concern and compassion. This is because we know that we are free, and that the ultimate responsibility for everything is God’s. We now start to become examples of ‘living peace in the midst of turmoil.’ Others can sense this and the peace reaches out to them, too. “Blessed are the peacemakers, for theirs is the Kingdom of Heaven,” says Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew, Chapter 5.
So let us look to God and leave our anxieties with him. May his Spirit lead us closer and closer to the revelation that ‘the truth has set us free.’ John 16
Author’s note:
While these are my own thoughts and are described in the language of my own Judeo-Christian tradition, I would like to express my deepest thanks to Dr. Deepak Chopra, especially for his book 'The Third Jesus'. This helped me enormously to find words to describe the 'God consciousness,' within me that I have steadily become aware over the last 30 years.
